God want you to be wealthy 10/3/12
God wants you to be wealthy! God wants you to be financially and materially well off. Let me strongly affirm that God wants you to be rich and the wealth that God is giving you is material wealth! Let us forget about using religious jargon like “Though I am poor, I am holy” or “I may be poor materially but I am rich spiritually”. I define wealth as having more than enough, having extras even to give others, whereas “Poverty” means not having enough, lacking, living in fear and anxiety over one’s daily needs, and being in debt!
Never accept poverty as will of God for your life! This is a lie from the enemy! Poverty is a curse. It is a result of the fall - just like sickness, disease, and death. Poverty comes as a result of sin and disobedience.
1. The just enough mentality
Many Christian have unconsciously adopted the “just enough” mentality. To a large extent, this mindset is a result of our Christian teaching on “Needs vs. Wants”. As a young Christian, I was taught that God would supply all my needs and not my wants. To ask for “wants” is being greedy and worldly.
With this mindset, Christian can become complacent towards life. They become fearful of asking for more and asking big! They adopt a “just enough” attitude towards life. They work just enough to earn just enough, they lose the drive to excel, compete succeed. In the final outcome, they become “mediocre’ in everything they do because they do not want to stand out nor excel.
The bible talks a lot about money. In fact, money is mentioned more than 2000 times. Money and wealth are important because our eternal destiny is dependent on how faithful we are in managing them here on earth. Jesus spoke about money more than he did about heaven.
We need to adopt the Kingdom mentality. Wanting more than enough for Kingdom purpose is not “greed”.
2. Contentment
When God wants to give us more than enough don’t settle for just enough. It is great to embrace an attitude of “contentment”. But we must not let this contentment mentality make us complacent towards God’s plans and purpose for our lives. God has a greater purpose in blessing us, should we ask a poor man to be contented with his state of poverty? But to the poor and needy, I would challenge them to see God’s desire for their lives. Their goal should be the “Promise Land”.
3. True wealth is a sign of God’s favor
Those who walked with God were blessed with wealth and prosperity. In modern language God would have given Abraham cash, cars, condominiums, credit cards, country club. Wealth and prosperity reflect the greatness and glory of God. God has given mankind dominion over the whole earth. He has given us the responsibility to care for the world and all things in it. God has made you a success and not a failure, a ruler and not a slave. Our needs would be met and we would find enjoyment and satisfaction from it. We need to view God as loving Father who wishes to shower His children with precious gift. We need to see God as a sovereign king who desires to bestow on His subject wealth and riches. Our God is a God of more than enough. Affirm this truth into your mind: God wants to bless and prosper you as He prospered Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph.
